Sea Of Thieves - Intro, Tips, Tricks & Tidbits Part 2

This is the age of Pirates! The age of rum and Gold! Listen all ye buccaneers As I tell ye the tales of old
I sat aboard a mighty vessel Myself and all me crew We set our sights on foreign land There was nothing we couldn't do
We took a quest from a man at port And set off to find the prize The captain was rather confident There was a glimmer in his eyes
He commanded the men and women aboard, To set a course for North He promised that when we found our mark There'd be nothing we couldn't afford
So we sang our sea shanty's As we sailed the waves For this was the life we had chosen Until the end of our days
When we reached the island No treasure did we discover For someone had beat us and left, Now our treasure belongs to another
Our captain cried out in anger Our ship will sail through the night We'll find the swabs that took our booty Prepare ye selves for a fight!
With cannon fire and cutlasses swinging Our treasure we did retrieve For this is the age of piracy This is the Sea of Thieves

I hope you guys enjoy the poem that is posted above. This embodies the very spirit of SOT. Now I have a list of simple Tips & Tricks for you to know more about.

  • When you are on the edge of a bank, you can sword lunge and you will go faster further in the water.

  • While blocking you can jump while moving left or right and you will parry.

  • Gold Skeletons have powerful defenses allowing them to be resistant against slash damage. You can bypass this by shooting them with guns. Point blank with a blunderbuss you can do it in one to two shots. Also cannonballs, firebombs and gunpowder kegs do great! If you don't have any of this you just need to get them wet. Rain, pails, ponds or even the sea!

  • Plant Skeletons are the opposite to Gold skeletons. Very difficult to kill while in water, resistant slightly to bullets but weaker to slash damage.

  • Shadow Skeletons are weak to light and daytime, even in caves. Just be aware of the time otherwise non of your attacks will work against them, so raise your beacon up high and kill these dry bones!

  • The saber does the lest damage. The pistol does a bit more damage than the saber and has a quicker draw plus better peripheral vision. The blunder buss does the least damage furthest away and has terrible accuracy, but point blank can one shot a full health Pirate. The sniper has the best control and it has a scope so that you can see further, it also has more damage than the pistol does but a slower ADS.

  • Gunpowder kegs are nice for sinking other ships but also a risk to keep on your ship. If you must have kegs keep them in your crow's nest where it will do a lot less damage to your ship if it does go off. If it is storming be aware that lightning can cause it to explode.

  • Speaking of kegs. Since the update adding in fire they explode when fire touches them. That being the case, if you are going to do a Fire Ship Raid and use kegs against the ships to speed up the raid, put the legs at the lowest part of your ship, away from ALL walls and put some water down. Taking these precautions will prevent them from blowing up.

  • Be aware of small amount of birds flying in circles in the water. That is a sign of floating barrels and possibly loot or kegs.

  • A large amount of flying birds is a sign of a sunken ship which will have lots of supply, some loot and cooked meat/fish.

  • If your boat rolls over a keg it will go boom!

  • If you drop the keg after lighting it while in the water next to a ship the keg will clip through the hull and do less damage to you and more to the ship.

  • Don't be afraid to suicide bomb, worse comes to worse, you come back a minute later to fight another day.

  • You can drown people in the brig.

  • Sharks take 2 point blank blunderbuss to die, they also kill anything in 2 hits. So, be careful!

  • Falling from tall heights can break your ankles making you walk as slow as walking.

  • If you are on an island or another ship and not your's find a nearby cannon and shoot yourself out in the middle of the ocean and your mermaid will pop up instantly.

  • Make it a point to deny treasure. If you are on an enemy ship and you have a chance just throw treasure out into the ocean while going full sails forward causing them a price for challenging you.

  • Skeleton forts can be long, especially while soloing. Same for Athena missions.

  • Skeleton forts have a lot of gunpowder kegs and food.

  • While doing Athena missions you will be given 2 chapters. In chapter 1 you will get 8 missions to do. Once all 8 are complete you will go on to chapter 2 and receive 1 mission of 1 chest. That chest is the most important of all of the chests you got. Also, you will be continuously fighting stronger skeletons.

  • Try and make friends, but don't trust everyone immediately.

  • Having the sails in full bellow is 100% more movement speed, if you are up against the wind, put the sails against the wind too and you will get a 10% movement speed increase.

  • Holding block before charging your sword strike will remove the movement debuff while charging it.

  • You can pacify snakes by playing music.

  • When you start the game you already have all of the tools, you just start out with the sailor skin ones.

  • There is no way to upgrade your tools and weapons, everything in the game are aesthetic and has no impact on the game.

  • Switching weapons you will restore that slot's ammo if there is not an ammo box nearby.

  • Sloops are the fasts ship against the wind while the galleon is the slowest.

  • The galleon is the fastest whip with the wind while sloops are the slowest.

  • Sloops are also able to turn tighter and faster than a galleon.

  • You turn faster when your sails are unfurled.

  • 2 people adjusting the same sail will work faster than 2 people adjusting to different sails.

  • It is good practice to check your entire ship before leaving an island for any stowaways.

  • Instead of keeping anchored at an island, raise the anchor and sails so that your ship doesn't go anywhere. This allows you to escape at a moment's notice because it is faster to drop a sail then it is to raise an anchor.

  • The gold notch on the steering wheel indicated the center. There's also an audible cue/vibration when you are at the center. You can leave the wheel and it will maintain your heading for the most part, but be aware that waves will push you one side or another when you are traveling at top speed.

  • Storms cause your steering wheel and compass to malfunction. You also take on water the entire time and while in the middle of the ocean while moving you will take hull damage. Storms are for the most part, with lights off, the best way to shake off pursuers.

  • Save your cannon shots until you are close and can have a higher chance of hitting. Between the motion of the ships and the waves, your accuracy will be pretty bad the further out you are, and cannon balls are precious.

  • The best way to guarantee a ship sinks is to send boarders below decks to disrupt their repairs. Explosive barrels help immensely too, especially in sloop vs. galleon fights.

  • You can drop anchor with full turn to spin the ship around fast, this is called anchor turning. Just be sure everyone is on that anchor as soon as it drops to raise it immediately.

  • If you get spawn camped, your can scuttle your ship from the ferry by going into your crew menu and voting.

This list might be updated and I will color code anything that is new.
